Things I Thought I Would Do/Be...
#Monday Listicles

Our challenge this week from Wendy who blogs at Twisted Domestic Goddess was to come up with “10 Things We Thought as a Child We Would Do/Be”.

Wow...so long ago. I racked my brain all week trying to remember what I wanted to be when I grew up. These 5 came to mind and then I was stuck. I mean really stuck. I even considered bailing this week. Then I decided an incomplete was better than a fail. This thinking could be explained by number 1...

1.      Teacher
I always wanted to be a teacher. Then I had kids of my own. Then my kids went to preschool. Then my kids were in elementary school. Then I did not want to be a teacher any more.

2.      Shoe Salesperson

If you remember any of these three pictures I would bet you wanted to be a shoe salesperson when you grew up too. Am I right? Now-a-days when you go into a shoe store you better know your shoe size or in the case of shoe shopping for your kids…good luck locating one of those mats with the foot outlines which I am sure are most accurate; then when you finally flag a salesperson down they will bring you the boxes and heaven forbid they help you lace any sneakers/runners that you are trying on. Whoa…sorry about that. Got a little carried away.

3.      Stewardess (or as they are known today...Flight Attendants)

Travelling around the world for free???  AND you got to wear a uniform with a hat! Sounded like a pretty good deal to me. Now I know better.

4.      Marry Donny Osmond

"Puppy Love"…Donny was singing that song TO. ME!!!

5.      A Mom

One out of 5 ain’t bad.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be/do when you grew up? Be sure to pop on over to Stasha's to see what everybody else thought.

  1. Oh, I feel your Donny Osmond love. I was watching Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with my students and I had to catch myself from swooning. Great list. Erin

    1. I saw him a few years ago in Vegas with my mom (she's a fan too) and sister. *sigh* Brought back memories. :D

  2. As a tourism guy, the flight attendant one is still on my list though I don't want to do any flights with screaming children, drunk idiots, frightened passengers or blowhard travelers. I guess I wouldn't be fly much would I?

  4. Bwahahahaha! You wanted to be Al Bundy! That's too funny. But I admit that if I was making this list, one of the things would be "cocktail waitress." I know, who wants to be that when they're a kid?

    1. Cocktail waitress huh? I wanted to be a bartender when I was in my 20's which...explains my fascination with ummmm cocktails. :D

  5. I was with you on the teacher and flight attendant. While I commiserated with you on the lack of help in shoe sizing, can't say I ever wanted to touch people's feet all day. Your lists always put a smile on my face. Thanks!

    1. Hmmmmm...never really thought about having to touch people's feet all day. We used to play shoe store when we were kids...back in the day when you were thrown outside in the summer and had to figure out how to occupy your time. Ha!

  6. I didn't think about selling shoes but I loved going to shoe for them and stepping on the metal foot. And don't get me start on the stool that was like the bitty slide. I loved that.

    1. Right??? Wasn't that stool the coolest!!! I think it was more the getting sized and the stool that attracted me.

  7. We both wanted to be airline stewardesses. I never thought about the shoe salesman career, but in retrospect...seems pretty cool. As long as there's no "stinky feet" involved. UGH

  8. I wanted to be a stewardess too until I remembered that I hated to fly. I went so far as to work for TWA, not in an airplane because ya know...I don't like those, but I did work for the airline for awhile.

    1. It always seemed like such a "glamorous" career when I was a kid. Flying off to far away destinations for a couple of days. When I finally went on my first plane trip at age 12...that pretty much cured me of that idea. :)

  9. I love the 'look' of the classic Pan Am stewardess but when I think about having to prance around in a girdle, hose, and heels at 30,000 ft I start realizing that there is no amount of money you could pay me to do that. Ouch. Great mini-list!

    1. I'm with you although now-a-days flats and pants seem to be the norm (or at least on the discount airlines that I fly). Yikes!

  10. I'm curious about where the shoe salesperson thing came from? I worked in a shoe store for a brief period of time. It was hellish. There were only two of us and the back of the store was this giant warehouse of misfiled shoes. There would be two customers in the store and then suddenly there would be 20 people in there, all wanting to try on every possible size in five different kinds of shoes at the same time. Then they would get mad that the two of us were taking too long and couldn't instanteously produce these dozens of pairs of shoes and then sit beside them ignoring all the other customers while they hemmed and hawed.

Ugh. I'm going to have nightmares about it tonight. Working in retail encouraged me to work my butt off in school so I wouldn't have to work with the general public for a living. Not a bad life experience in that sense.

    1. Back to school shoe shopping was a big event when I was a kid. I had/have tiny feet (size 5) and was always desperate for my feet to grow hence the measuring thing. As Jamie (South Main Muse) said...that foot stool was like an itty bitty slide. Kids now-a-days don't know what they're missing out on. Haahaa!

  11. Precious pic of your boys! I had to skip this listicle. I couldn't think of 10 and I wasn't smart enough to do fewer ;)

  12. I failed this week.
I still want to be all the things I wanted to be as a child.....I am sure there is totally a job for shower-singing-cowgirl-mom-ninja :)

  13. I love the shoe salesman!!! Stepping into the metal thing was one of my favorite part of buying shoes as a kid! And I wanted to be a stewardess too.

    1. Right!!! Did you not just love the stool too???

  14. I always thought being a stewardess would be so fun! Seeing the world, looking all pretty and skinny and classy. It's just too bad I really wasn't qualified. Besides not having the "look", I unfortunately always get queasy on a flight!

    1. It's hard to believe they don't have them anymore and you just have to kind of "wing it" with shoe sizes. Especially hard when you're trying to size kids. Wait. That almost sounded like one of those "when I was growing up..." kinda stories. Eeep!

  17. You would have had to fight for Donny with my cousin. She loved him too. BTW I met him and he's not a very nice man, you dodged a bullet there.
